Renova Flats in December 2019

To stay sane, I watched TV on my phone.

We went to a few parades and out to eat and to the river.

We watched while an old motel near us was being renovated into a new place called Renova Flats.

2019 was so-so.

Then on December 10, 2019, our life took a much better turn.

Courtyard was going to be closed and we were invited to move into the newly opened Renova Flats.

We were granted two months without rent and a senior rate.

Room 107 became our home and still is.

Courtyard was tough

The room at Courtyard was among the worst rooms we've had.

An old TV set. The room faced east and west. It got hot in the afternoon.

Lori went through a few weeks when she didn't even leave the room.

I was on a new medication that wasn't agreeing with me.

So, 2019 was a tough year.

Moved into our home at Renova Flats

When we returned to Reno from Las Vagas in November 0f 2018 the redevelopment of Reno’s Fourth Street (now called Neon Line District) was going on as the former Crest Inn was transformed into a new urban residence known as Renova Flats at West Fourth and Ralston Streets.

When we first returned, we stayed at Courtyard Inn, also owned by Jeff Jacobs. On December 10, 2019, we were invited to be among the first residents of Renova Flats.

Renova Flats has electric, gas, cable TV, free Wi-Fi, and trash included in the monthly rent (we have a special Senior Citizen rate). Each unit has a dedicated storage unit, central heating, and an individual Air Conditioner.

Renova Flats has a fully equipped community shared kitchen, outdoor top deck with lighted tables and chairs, a main outside area gas BBQ, outdoor seating, indoor media room with two large flat screen TVs. A secure mail area is provided along with private dry food lockers, and a large ice machine.

Renova Flats is a gated community with 24-hour video surveillance. We have several entrances that open with an electronic keychain fob.

Although I love doing laundry at the nearby Laundry Depot, we do have an onsite laundry facility. a landscaped area with gas fire pit, open parking, and visitor parking. In addition, we residents have access to the J Resort's fitness center and pool.

This is the nicest home we have had in the past decade, and we love it.

Bliss: My first true love.

The first true love of my life, Bliss Arneberg. (Photo taken in 2019, a year before she died at age seventy-one from cancer.)

I met her in 1968 at Pocono Manor Inn. We were in a show the hotel put on featuring staff folks called "It's a Groovy Time."

We were inseparable that summer, but our love could not continue.

By the fall, she returned to Cornell, and I went to the US Navy Boot Camp in Great Lakes.

Bliss was survived by her husband of 30 years, Tom Ireland, whose family owned Pocono Manor.
