Folk Rock in 1965

In 1965, when I was a fulltime announcer at WJER Radio in Dover/New Philadelphia, Ohio, I took up guitar, a Fender classic acoustic, and was into "folk-rock."

The term "folk rock" was initially used in the U.S. music press in June 1965 to describe the Byrds' music.

In the U.S., folk rock emerged when Bob Dylan and the Byrds attempted to blend the sounds of rock with their pre-existing folk repertoire, adopting the use of electric instrumentation and drums in a way previously discouraged in the U.S. folk community.

Another announcer, Randy Gerber, also played guitar and we did local gigs as a Smothers Brothers tribute band.
